Looking for a fun way to explore London and support animal welfare at the same time?
Check out the new Tusk Turtle Trail, on now through September. Throughout London, there are 16 life-sized turtle sculptures in iconic Central London locations. The aim of the city-wide installment is to “invite passersby to pause, reflect and engage with urgent marine conservation issues”. If you’d like to make a nice long walk out of it, there’s a Google Maps link showing the best path between each location — it’s 8km long, starting in Charing Cross and going all the way to London Bridge.
The turtles have all been decorated by well-known artists and celebrities such as the Rolling Stones’ Ronnie Wood, comedian John Cleese and his wife Jen, and noted British photographer Rankin.
Tusk is a nonprofit founded in 1990 to support conservation of biodiversity across Africa. To date, they’ve generated more than £130 million to support the growth of over 250 local partner organisations and wildlife ranger teams in more than 25 African countries. In the past, they’ve also hosted similar installations in London focused on Rhinos, Lions, and Gorillas. Learn more about the installment and their mission here.
